There’s been no news yet of the swearing-in of John Crews to a term on the board of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), which is apparently working with all three board seats vacant.
Crews, a Treasury official, was nominated earlier this year and confirmed Aug. 7 to a seat on the NCUA Board for a term that ends Aug. 2, 2031. Hauptman, a Republican and the board’s chairman – and only remaining member since April 2025 – has left the agency, having been sworn in Aug. 10 to a seat on the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).
Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka, both Democrats, were fired from the NCUA Board seats last April and continue to seek reinstatement.
A quick check of the NCUA website shows no board members listed and no board meetings (or any other events) currently scheduled.
The NCUA charters federal credit unions and, through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), protects members’ shares (deposits) in federal and state-chartered, federally insured credit unions. The agency’s last quarterly data report, for March 30, shows there are 4,250 federally insured credit unions nationwide, with $2.48 trillion in assets and $1.91 trillion in insured shares and deposits.
