Kate Tyrrell is the new chief of staff for the Treasury Department, the agency said Tuesday, as the former chief of staff and chief operating officer (COO) of the national bank regulator assumes a new role in the department.
The announcement from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent did not outline Tyrrell’s duties in her new role at the department. However, the message did outline her past responsibilities at OCC and other positions.
According to Treasury, as COO at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Tyrrell was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the OCC front office, overseeing the bureau’s public and legislative affairs, and providing direct support to the Comptroller.
Before joining the bank regulator, she was a senior managing director at a real estate finance and investment firm, as well as chief of staff to its founder and CEO. The Treasury did not name the firm.
Prior to these roles, she served as deputy chief of staff at the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), and as the deputy executive secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Treasury said Tyrrell holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Maryland and a law degree from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
