Exam council’s state panel re-elects chairman, names (not) new member

The panel of state regulators that advises the umbrella group for federal financial institution regulators has named its chairman for the next year and added a new member, the panel said Thursday.

The State Liaison Committee (SLC) of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) said Charles G. Cooper, commissioner of the Texas Department of Banking, was re-elected as chairman of the group. Cooper first became a member (and chairman) of the SLC in 2023; he has been Texas commissioner since 2008. His term runs from May 1 to April 30, 2025.

Meanwhile, the SLC named as a member of the panel Greg Gonzales, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions. He previously served on the SLC from 2016 to 2021 and served as SLC chair from 2017 to 2021. He has been Tennessee commissioner since 2005. His term on the SLC also runs from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025.
