The 2026 list of neighborhoods where certain bank activities are eligible for Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) credit was released Tuesday by federal banking agencies, which includes distressed or underserved nonmetropolitan middle-income geographies.
According to the agencies, the list covers the neighborhoods (called “geographies”) where revitalization or stabilization activities are eligible to receive CRA consideration. “The designations reflect local economic conditions, including unemployment, poverty, and population changes,” the agencies said in a joint release.
Revitalization or stabilization activities in the neighborhoods are eligible for CRA consideration under the community development definition for 12 months after publication of the current list, the agencies noted.
Under CRA rules, the banking agencies apply a one-year lag period for neighborhoods that were included in 2025 but are no longer designated as distressed or underserved in the 2026 list, the agencies noted.
