OCC allows FIs to close offices in areas affected by Tropical Storm Nicole

National banks, federal savings associations, and federal branches and agencies of foreign banks were permitted to close offices in areas affected by Tropical Storm Nicole in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, the national bank regulator said in a proclamation late Wednesday.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) said in its proclamation that it expects only those bank offices directly affected by potentially unsafe conditions will close. “Those offices should make every effort to reopen as quickly as possible to address the banking needs of their customers,” it said. It pointed institutions to OCC Bulletin 2012-28, “Supervisory Guidance on Natural Disasters and Other Emergency Conditions” (September 21, 2012), for further guidance.
