MDI panel for FDIC to meet Wednesday; will give feedback on FDIC initiatives

Feedback on the agency’s strategies to preserve and promote minority depository institutions (MDIs), the Mission-Driven Bank Fund created to channel funds to MDIs and community development financial institutions (CDFIs), and other agency initiatives will be provided to the federal bank deposit insurer during the non-public portion of a meeting Wednesday by its MDI subcommittee, according to a release.

The MDI Subcommittee to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) Advisory Committee on Community Banking (CBAC) will begin its meeting at 1 p.m. Prior to the closed session, the panel will hold a public discussion of key challenges and opportunities facing MDIs and their communities, including efforts to draw more unbanked persons to open bank accounts, the FDIC said Friday.

Wednesday’s MDI Subcommittee meeting precedes Thursday’s CBAC open meeting, also scheduled for 1 p.m.; the subcommittee is slated to provide an update in the Thursday meeting. Both open meetings will be viewable by webcast only.
