The federal credit union regulator is increasing its maximum award amount for grants available to low-income-designated credit unions from $7,500 to $15,000, the agency said Friday.
The newly chartered and urgent needs grants come from the Community Development Revolving Loan Fund (CDRLF) run by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). “Newly chartered” grants are available to credit unions in operation for fewer than 10 years and having assets of $10 million or less, it said. “Urgent needs” grants are for natural disaster relief and “other emergency events as determined by the NCUA,” according to the agency’s 2026 guidelines for the program.
The agency, in Friday’s release, included a link to the 2026 guidelines and said prospective applicants may contact staff in the agency’s Office of Credit Union Resources and Expansion by email at CUREAPPS@ncua.gov.
Legislation appropriating $3.465 million for technical assistance grants through the CDRLF was signed by the president Feb. 3, according to Congress.gov.
