Keith Morton, director of the Southern Region for the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and past president of the agency’s Asset Management Assistance Center (AMAC), is retiring Friday, Aug. 29, the agency said.
Morton has served with the agency for nearly 40 years, it said. He has headed up the agency’s Southern Region office in Austin, Texas, since 2006, serving seven years during the period as AMAC president.

The NCUA website shows that Morton in his current post oversees the examination and supervision of all federally insured credit unions in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
He joined the NCUA in 1986 as a field examiner in Washington, D.C., it shows.
“For nearly four decades, Keith has worked side-by-side with credit unions to strengthen the cooperative system,” NCUA Chairman Kyle Hauptman was quoted saying. “His dedication to public service helped credit unions remain strong and resilient, ensuring their ability to better serve their members.”
Cory Phariss, director of AMAC, will also serve as acting regional director for the Southern Region until further notice, the agency said.
