Fed Board member Kugler resigns after less than two years’ service; will return to academic position

Changes are coming to the Federal Reserve Board as Gov. Adriana Kugler submitted her resignation Friday effective Aug. 8, the agency said.

Kugler joined the board on Sept. 13, 2023. According to her resignation letter (sent to President Donald Trump) she plans to return to Georgetown University as a professor this fall.

“I am especially honored to have served during a critical time in achieving our dual mandate of bringing down prices and keeping a strong and resilient labor market,” Kugler said in her resignation letter.

Kugler was U.S. executive director at the World Bank immediately before she joined the Fed Board. She also served as chief economist at the U.S. Department of Labor between 2011-2013. At Georgetown, she was a vice provost for faculty and served as professor of public policy at the McCourt School. She plans to return there in the fall.
