CFPB reverses rescission of rule setting notification procedures when states take CFPA enforcement action

A direct final rule published May 21 to rescind procedures by which a state official must notify the bureau when the official takes action to enforce the Consumer Financial Protection Act (CFPA) is rescinded as of July 21, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

The May final rule, the CFPB said, noted that it “would be withdrawn if the Bureau received significant adverse comments by June 20, 2025. Accordingly, because significant adverse comments were received, the Bureau is withdrawing the direct final rule. The Bureau will address comments received in a subsequent rulemaking.”
